The BIN2BEAN consortium is pleased to announce that the project’s final event will take place on 10 September 2026 in Coimbra, Portugal, within the framework of the Soils4Europe Conference.
Marking the culmination of a three-year journey that began in September 2023, the event will bring together project partners, researchers, policy makers, Living Lab practitioners, and other stakeholders to reflect on the achievements of BIN2BEAN and discuss future perspectives for circular bio-waste management and soil health in Europe.
Throughout the project, BIN2BEAN has worked to foster the transition towards more sustainable and circular bio-waste systems, promoting innovative approaches to nutrient recycling, soil restoration, and citizen engagement. The final event will provide an opportunity to showcase the project’s key outcomes, share experiences from the participating cities, and exchange lessons learned with the wider European community.
Participants will gain insights into the main technical and methodological results generated by the project, including approaches for assessing soil health, innovative scoring systems, participatory methodologies, and tools developed to support stakeholders and practitioners. Short presentations from technical partners will highlight some of the project’s most significant innovations and the collaboration established with related European initiatives.
A dedicated session will focus on the experiences of the BIN2BEAN Living Labs, illustrating how cities across Europe have implemented and tested circular solutions in real-world contexts. These presentations will provide valuable examples of the opportunities, challenges, and lessons learned during the transition towards more sustainable urban bio-waste management systems.
The programme will also feature interactive panel discussions addressing topics of strategic importance for the future uptake and replication of project results. Discussions will cover policy recommendations and implications, business models for circular bio-based solutions, indicators for soil health assessment, and approaches to awareness raising and community engagement. Representatives from the Mission Soil community and related projects will contribute to a broader dialogue on common challenges, complementarities, and pathways for scaling up innovation across Europe.
After three years of fruitful collaboration and co-creation, the final event will offer a unique opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the BIN2BEAN project and strengthen connections among the diverse actors working towards healthier soils and more resilient circular systems.
